replay screencast works well, the free trial version only records for a minute though

I personally use Camtasia Recorder by Techsmith (it's part of their Camtasia Studio suite). It's a very cool program. You can set how many frames per second to capture, so for sites like Secretfriends that have a fairly low refresh rate you don't have to waste of bunch of hard drive space capturing at 15 frames per second. It'll even capture streaming shows (like the high speed stuff on DirectSex) by temporary disabling your display acceleration during capture. I use the DivX codec to capture AVI files since that gives the best size-to-quality ratio of any of the codecs I've used. The only problem with Camtasia Studio (and it's a pretty big problem) is that it costs $299. But I'm sure you could find it for "free" if you search the newsgroups.

I've never got into the whole recording camshows biz... But, when I think about it, it could be awesome. Cool

I mean, you could rewatch it again and again... So even the $299 for Camtasia could pay for itself in the longrun, especially if you're recording chats from an expensive cam-site.

So, do you guys now have an extensive collection of cam-chats on CD/harddrive? And, is the cam-show just as good the second time around? Twisted Evil

There is a neat program called SnagIt...If you have a codec pack like Ace mega codecs pack you can record in practically any video format and also select what part of the screen you wish to record or even fix a certain region if it doesn't change. It is also a fairly easy program to get to grips with.
So, say you record in high quality .avi like Xvid or Divx and set the frame rate to record about 5 frames per second, an hours worth of recording only adds up to about 15 megs of hard drive space...The program is easily obtained...Someone mentioned emule already Wink

Emule? Why bother with all the crappy hacked virus ridden pirated software where you can just buy snagit for all of fourty bucks? I mean that's less than 10 minutes of cam time at some sites and it's yours foerever.

I saw someone mentioned Replay Screencast. I use Replay A/V to record satellite radio but I've never tried useing the video function. Does anyone know if that would work and how??? Sorry I know it's a noob question, but I'm pretty new to this.

I think with DirectSex you can get the actual url to the Windows media stream pretty easily. just right-click when the hi speed video is playing, choose Properties and you will seee a url like:

mms://wm.directsex.com/College girls?28^U$J9

copy and paste into recording software, much better than trying to use camtasia or whatever IMHO.

For sites that use Windows Media like DirectSex, you can use WM Recorder http://www.wmrecorder.com/ to capture the compressed stream directly. For other site you have to screen capture and them compress the video with a program like Hypercam http://www.hyperionics.com/hc/
